NACBA Member Barbara Whipple of Latham, New York, testified before the U.S. House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit on the role that excessive credit card fees and interest rates play in forcing consumers into bankruptcy. The Subcommittee held a field hearing on credit cards and seniors on August 7 th at a senior center in the town of Half Moon, New York. This was the latest hearing in a series the Subcommittee has held to examine issues related to the marketing, billing and disclosure practices of credit card companies. Reform legislation is expected to be introduced in the fall. NACBA Legislative Director Maureen Thompson arranged for Barbara Whipple's appearance before the Subcommittee.
