Convention & Educational Programs
Annual Conventions are the nearest thing to a spiritual experience in our business. It is an annual Revival Tent, providing time to recharge your batteries, reconnect with friends, and be inspired to better work in the next year.

NACBA’s annual spring NACBA convention is the educational seminar of choice for consumer bankruptcy attorneys nationwide. Judges and nationally recognized speakers provide case law updates, practical tips on effective representation of clients, information on emerging trends nationwide, and in-depth discussions of topical issues. Over a thousand consumer bankruptcy attorneys each year improve their knowledge and skills and still have time to meet and learn from colleagues while obtaining valuable CLE credit.
Members-Only workshops provide the opportunity for in-depth learning on selected topics of interest to our members.

NACBA’S 15TH Annual Convention
NACBA’s 15th Annual Convention, held April 20 – 22, 2007 in Philadelphia, drew over 1,000 atttendees, 35 exhibitors, and over 100 exhibitor staff. Presenters included, among others, the Honorable: Jean FitzSimon (Philadelphia PA), James B. Haines (Portland, ME), Jr., J. Rich Leonard (Raleigh, NC), Thomas Waldron (Dayton, OH), Judith Wizmur (Camden, NJ), Eric Frank (Philadelphia, PA), and Marilyn Morgan (San Jose, CA) and Law Professors Marianne Culhane (Creighton University), Michaela White (Creighton University), Margaret Howard (Washington & Lee), Alan Resnick (Hofstra), and Peter Rubin (Georgetown).
Because turn-out was so excellent and because NACBA membership has almost doubled since the Convention site was initially reserved, space was tight in our sessions. This, however, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of our attendees and everyone pitched in to make room for colleagues.
A few Convention highlights:
- First-ever State Chairs breakfast. Members had the opportunity to discuss the issues of concern in their states, to coordinate their efforts to pursue legislative changes at the state level, and to meet with their State Chair.
- Keynote speech by the Honorable Thomas Waldron, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Dayton, OH.
- Awards: NACBA’s Champion of Consumer Rights award was given to:
The Honorable Thomas Waldron - Honored for his longtime contributions as a judge and as a frequent speaker at NACBA conventions, and his constant support of NACBA and consumers' rights
The Honorable Marilyn Morgan – Honored for her distinguished career as a lawyer for consumer debtors and as a bankruptcy judge, and her vital help in the formation of NACBA.
Representative John Conyers - Honored for his unwavering support of consumers’ rights on the House Judiciary Committee, which he now chairs.
Craig Goldblatt - Honored for the enormous amount of pro bono work and outstanding job he and his firm, Wilmer Hale did on our amicus brief in Marrama and in other cases.
